Meet my friend Necillia. A woman with a long challenging life. Living in a tent by the river with no job, no skills and no help from her family, she struggled to survive and provide for her daughter. As a child, her family could not afford to send her to school. As she continues to grow older the possibility of writing her own name has become a faded hope.
Then the flood came. It washed away Necillia’s tent and everything she owned. Her means of survival vanished along with all her hopes and dreams. Within weeks New Vision Ministries provided her housing and a job as a cook for the elderly feeding program. The love and care shown her by New Vision Ministries drew her to recommit her life to Christ. She loved hearing the pastor share Bible stories, but she longed to see it for her self. But how? She didn’t know how to read.
Something so easily corrected… yet so impacting. Necillia had a deep desire to learn, but no one to teach her. The literacy program sparked a renewed hope. She was unstoppable… showing up every week without fail, spending hours practicing, exceeding the efforts of those far younger than her. Necillia can now proudly spell her name, read simple words, and one day soon read her Bible. So little effort to teach, yet such a priceless gift.
I love Necillia dearly and I am so blessed to have spent the last year pouring into her life. It is people like her and the tremendous need that draw my heart to live in Haiti and continue the love ministry God has called me to do.
God is so faithful and has provided a way for me to return to Haiti October 23rd. An organization called Operation HOPE has offered a dollar-for-dollar match up to $5,000, effectively doubling every dollar you give to bring me to my goal of $10,000 for the year. But with my heart so deep in Haiti my intention is to live there long-term and I am looking for monthly supporters on an ongoing basis. I welcome and appreciate your contributions in whatever form you feel led to give.
I am so grateful for all of you who have prayed and supported me this past year in Haiti and I hope you continue to do so. I look forward to sharing even more adventures and miracles with you!
