Even though there is no Christmas lights, Santa Clause, Christmas trees, Egg Nog, Christmas sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes and absolutely no snow in Haiti, we would still like to wish all you a very Merry Christmas!!
We would like to share with you many of the highlights that have happened in this past year. The number one highlight would of course be our beautiful wedding on August 10th. To love and be loved by the one that God created you to be with for the rest of your life is the sweetest blessing ever to receive.
After the wedding we spent a wonderful 10 days in the Dominican Republic. One of our favorite moments was when Philipson got to hug a dolphin for the first time. When we returned to Haiti we began the process of settling into our new home. God is faithful and with what little budget we had, He blessed us with a very nice house. There have been challenges along the way, mainly with our water system. But God continues to remind us that He gave us this house for a purpose and it is a blessing.
One of the ways it has been used as a blessing is that for the past 2 months we have been having a prayer and worship time every Monday, Wednesday, Friday. About 10-15 young people come every morning. It is a great time of uniting together in prayer for Haiti and seeking God's will on how we can be His hands and feet in Haiti. It is so encouraging to see young Haitian men and women filled with a fire for God, rising up to make a change for God's kingdom.
Within Kelsea's women's ministry the biggest highlight this year has been the start of a new and entirely different program for the women. To make it even better...it includes jewelery! Earlier this year New Vision was unable to continue the feeding program for the elderly due to lack of funding. This greatly affected the women because they were now out of a job. New Vision still did not have funding, but we felt led to create some kind of program that would be more self-sustaining and help the women to also be more self-supporting. We met a lovely Haitian woman named Nana and her husband Osnel who know how to make beads for jewelery out of magazine paper. We brought them in to teach our women how to make these beads. New Vision then buys the beads from the women and sells them in the States. We also have incorporated a way for the women to pay the rent on their house each year by setting aside a portion of their money each month. We are excited for how this program is empowering these women to provide for themselves and their children.
For the past two years Philipson has been working with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) ministry called Justice Water. This ministry travels all around Haiti and the Dominican Republic building water tanks that catch and purify rain water for communities that do not have good access to clean water. This year the team traveled to Hinche, Haiti where they brought the men of two neighboring villages together to learn and build a water tank. It was a blessing to see the unification of these men working together to bring pure water to their communities. Justice Water also built a water tank in Batey, Dominican Republic a Haitian-Dominican town that is very impoverished. One of the main highlights was being able to participate in a YWAM Discipleship Training School and teach the students principles on clean water, good hygiene practices and how to build a rain-catchment water tank. The students spent 2 weeks building a water tank in the community that can hold 2,000 gallons of water. The students are very excited to go back to each of their communities and share what they have learned. This past year has not only been a year of personal blessings, but more so the honor of being used by God to be a blessing to others.
As the new year of 2014 approaches, we look back on 2013 and are very grateful for what God has done in our lives, the many blessings He poured out on us and how He used us to further His Kingdom. Looking forward into 2014, God has been preparing and speaking to us that it is time for a new season.
We have felt that God is calling us to further establish His Kingdom in Haiti through connecting with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). As we sought further direction from God, we invited all the Haitian men and women with YWAM to join us in a time of prayer. During this time God confirmed in many ways that He wants to create a place where the youth of Haiti will unite and rise up to bring transformation.
We are excited for this new season that God is leading us in and we joyfully step out in faith to follow the will of His heart. We are anticipating 2014 to be a great and grand adventure! Please be praying for us as God continues to open our eyes, speak to our hearts and guide our feet to help Haiti become a nation of blessing!
We pray that your heart will be filled with love, joy, and the peace during this wonderful time of celebrating the blessing of Christ's birth!
Blessings and Love,
Philipson and Kelsea Caswell Georges
